You should get to know the needs of your soil by monitoring rainfall and conducting soil tests annually. Either: 1) Have your state lab test it (avg. $10-$12/soil sample) - call the Cooperative Extension Service (in your local phone book) for instructions; or 2) Test it yourself with one of these economical test kits.
