Artichoke, Globe

Globe artichoke is an easily grown gourmet delight. The "globe" is the flower bud, which includes the edible parts: fleshy bases of the outer bracts, the inner bracts, the receptacle, and portions of the floral stem. Grow your own, like Thomas Jefferson, who raised artichokes on his Virginia plantation as early as 1767.
