"Summer" Alfalfa

(Medicago sativa)
Fast-growing, annual alfalfa with high forage and biomass yield.
Nondormant type is only marginally winter hardy, but grows more rapidly than normal alfalfa. As an annual green manure, "Summer" alfalfa can produce up to 10 tons of organic matter per acre. Long taproots break up compacted soil and bring up subsurface minerals. High nitrogen fixation and great bee forage. Sow early to midspring or in late summer (best time for weed competition), 1/2 lb./1,000 sq. ft. (15-20 lb./acre) alone. Use half this rate mixed with grain/grass. Pre-inoculated with OMRI listed Nitragin Gold. Avg. 175,000 seeds/lb. Avg. 175,000 seeds/lb.
