Growing Information:
Consolida orientalis: Germination: 14-21 days at 55°F. Prechill seed 7 days at 35°F. Culture: Outdoors (recommended) - early spring for summer bloom or fall for bloom the following year. Darkness required for germination. Seeds do not germinate well when soil temp. is above 55°F. Growing On: If growing transplants, 55°F until ready to plant out. Plants have tap roots and do not transplant readily. Light/Soil: Full sun; rich, well-drained, slightly alkaline soil. Spacing: 4-6". Support recommended. Use: Cut or dried flower, back of beds. Harvest: Fresh - 2-3 basal flowers open on up to 1/3 of stem. Dried - majority of flowers on stem are open but before petals drop. Consolida regalis: See above. Spacing: 8-12". Use: Cut flower, front of border. Harvest: 50-70% of the flowers in a spray are open. |
