Growing Information:
Amaranthus spp.: Germination: 7-10 days at 70-75°F. Culture: Indoors - 4-6 weeks before last frost. Transplant out after danger of frost is past. Outdoors - after last frost, sow thinly. Growing On: 62-65°F until transplanting. Light/Soil: Full sun in average, well-drained soil. Spacing: 12-15". Support advised. Use: Fresh or dried, back of bed, accent in borders, containers. Harvest: Fresh - at least 3/4 of the flowers on the inflorescence are open. Dried - seed has begun to set and flowers feel firm; hang. Amaranthus tricolor splendens: Germination: 5-10 days at 70-75°F. Culture: Indoors (recommended in colder regions) - sow 6-7 weeks before last frost; cover lightly. Transplant out after danger of frost is past. Outdoors - after last frost, sow thinly, barely covering seed. Thin. Growing On: 62-65°F until transplanting. Light/Soil: Full sun in average, well-drained soil. Rich soils may result in less brightly colored foliage. Prefers warm, dry locations; will not tolerate wet soils. Tolerates drought.
