Summer Alfalfa

Cover Crop Seed

Product ID: 2808

Fast-growing, annual alfalfa with high forage and biomass yield.

This is only marginally winter hardy, but grows more rapidly than normal alfalfa. Long taproots break up compacted soil and bring up subsurface minerals. High nitrogen fixation and great bee forage. Sow early to midspring or in late summer (best time for weed competition), 1/2 lb./1,000 sq.ft. (15-20 lb./acre) alone. Use half this rate when mixed with grain/grass. Inoculate with #9511 for best performance. Avg. 216,000 seeds/lb.

Growing Information: A finely prepared seed bed will guarantee the best stand. Provide adequate moisture to improve germination. Seed early in the season so germination will preclude weeds, since it does not compete well with weeds early in the establishment sequence. Nitrogen production is up to 200 lb/acre.
