Chickling Vetch (AC Greenfix) (OG)

2964G

Product ID: 2964G

Green manure with the ability to fix nitrogen in 45 days.

In our field trials, AC Greenfix developed rhizobial nodules after 3-4 weeks, at 6" in height. Very drought tolerant, its grassy, bladed leaf rolls in on itself to conserve moisture in dry conditions. High in crude protein and digestible nutrients for cattle and sheep forage. Do not, however, feed seed as grain because it contains a neurotoxin that can cause serious illness. Seed as early in the spring as the soil can be worked. Early planting encourages weed suppression and gets the stand off to a good start. Broadcast seeding is not recommended. Sow at 50-70 lb./acre with a corn planter or a grain drill. Seed should be planted into moist soil. Let grow at least 60 days for high nitrogen fixation (avg. 80-100 lbs./acre). For best results, turn the entire plant under because as much as 80% of the nitrogen will be in the above-ground part of the plant. Grows to 3-4', and can withstand temps down to 22-26ºF (-6 to -3ºC). Organically grown. Avg. 2,800 seeds/lb.
