Tufted, thistle-like flowers. Upright habit produces 5-8 blooms per stem. Flowers are easily air-dried for dried arrangements. Fresh vase life is 5-7 days. Petals are edible and are sometimes used as a substitute for saffron. Also known as Safflower. Organically grown. Ht. 24-36". Avg. 700 seeds/oz. Packet: 50 seeds.

GERMINATION: 10-14 days at 68-72°F (20-22.2°C).
CULTURE: Outdoors (recommended) - Sow after last frost date, covering seed lightly. Indoors - Sow 4-6 weeks before last frost date, directly into cell packs or larger containers. Cover seed lightly. Harden off and transplant outdoors after danger of frost has passed.
GROWING ON: Seed germinated in the greenhouse should be grown at 65°F (18°C).
LIGHT/SOIL: Full sun in average well-drained soil. Southern growers - provide approximately 30% shade or some afternoon shade.
SPACING: 6-9" apart.
USE: Fresh or dried cut flower.
HARVEST: Fresh - When flowers have begun to open. Harvesting when color is not showing will result in flower buds not opening. Dried - Flowers are completely open; air dry.
