Compared with seed-grown East Indian Lemon Grass, the stalks are larger and more bulbous at the stem base. These bare-rooted plants can be potted up or planted directly in the ground. When mature, each plant will produce at least 6-12 harvestable stalks, and will regrow when cut back to just above the soil line. Tropical perennial grown as an annual in most parts of the U.S. Bare-rooted plants may take up to 10 days to fully root when planted. Notes:
This is a very pungent herb and is normally used in small amounts. The entire stalk of the grass can be used. The grass blade can be sliced very fine and added to soups. The bulb can be bruised and minced for use in a variety of recipes.
The light lemon flavor of this grass blends well with garlic, chilies, and cilantro. The herb is frequently used in curries as well as in seafood soups. It is also used to make tea.
