Common Purple Coneflower.
The easiest Echinacea to grow - germinates without stratification. Vigorous plants with large, purple-petaled flowers. Fibrous roots are easy to harvest (other species have taproots). Ht. 24-36". 7-day stratification enhances germination, but is not critical. Organically grown. Avg. 6,500 seeds/oz. Packet: 100 seeds.

Echinacea
GERMINATION: 10-15 days at 65-70°F (18-21°C).
CULTURE: Indoors - 8-10 weeks before planting out. Outdoors - In spring when soil is warm; in groups of 3-4 seeds, 1/8" deep. Thin.
LIGHT/SOIL: Full sun; average, well-drained soil. Tolerates partial shade.
SPACING: 18-24".
USE: Cut flowers, borders, mass or wildflower plantings, fresh or dried seed heads.
HARVEST: Fresh - As petals are expanding. Dried - When cone is raised and has turned golden. Petals strip easiest at this point. Hang to dry.
