Fruits > Cranberries

North American natives are ready to produce deep red fruit.

4-yr.-old plants arrive in 6" pots. Stevens has better flavor and is higher yielding than Howes, which it replaced. Very good keeping quality. Round-oval shaped fruits are high in antioxidants. This cranberry is the result of a cross between McFarlin and Potter by the USDA Cranberry Breeding Program.

Cranberries

CULTURE: Cranberries prefer full sun and highly organic, acidic soil. Prepare the bed by removing the top 6 inches of soil. Replace the soil with a 50:50 mixture of peat moss and coarse, sharp sand (similar to beach sand or general purpose sand). Mix the peat moss often to help absorb water.
PLANTING: Space the plants 4' x 4', planting the root ball slightly below the surface.
HARVEST: Beginning the first year, harvest berries by hand when red, from late September to late October.
SPECS: One 4' x 4' bed may yield up to 5 lb. of fruit in the third and fourth year of production.
