For fruit crop or as an ornamental.
Fall-bearing. Cranberries are native to North America and are known for their dark red fruit that is high in antioxidants. Contrary to popular belief, cranberries do not grow in water but they do require an acid peat soil, consistent moisture, and a cold dormant period. Johnny's offers 4 year-old plants in 6" pots that can be grown in a prepared field for a fruit crop, or in a large container as an ornamental. The Stevens variety was bred by the USDA cranberry breeding program and was named after cranberry researcher Neil Stevens. Cranberries are perennial in Zones 2-6, but are not recommended for Zones 7 and higher as they cannot tolerate warmer climates.
