Another shade in the Silky Series.
Striking red blooms and bronze foliage combine to create a superb cut flower. Ht. 28-40". Avg. 8,500 seeds/oz. Packet: 50 seeds. Hardy in zones 7-10.

Growing Information:
Asclepias curassavica: Germination: 14-21 days at 65-70°F. Culture: Indoors (recommended) - 10-12 weeks before last frost. Transplant out after danger of frost is past. Growing On: Begins taproot growth at germination; do not allow to become potbound. Light/Soil: Full sun; well-drained, sandy loam to poor soil. Spacing: 12-24". Use: Cut flower, borders, containers, butterfly gardens. Harvest: 1/2 to 2/3 of flowers are open on a stem. If stems wilt after harvest rehydrate in water for 24 hours. Asclepias incarnata: See above. Light/Soil: Full sun; moist, well-drained, average soil. Tip: Plants sprout very late in spring; mark location early to prevent damage by cultivation. Best to allow plants to remain undisturbed indefinitely. Spacing: 12-24". Use: Cut flower, dried pods, perennial borders, naturalizing, butterfly gardens. Harvest: Fresh- 1/2 to 2/3 of the flowers are open; do not open well once cut. Fresh pods-while green but before they start to split. Dried pods-as they turn tan and begin to split; remove seeds; completely dry pods
