Director of Human Resources

Position Summary

As Director of Human Resources you will have primary responsibility for directing all areas of human resource administration, including recruiting, salary administration, benefits, management development/training, and safety. The successful candidate will help shape the company's overall strategic direction, and develop and implement long-term strategies in all aspects of human capital management that measurably contribute to achieving the company's goals.

This is a full-time, salaried position based at our Fairfield, Maine facility but requiring travel to all three locations (Albion, Winslow, Fairfield).

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of HR strategies to drive improvement in the following areas:
    • Talent acquisition and position recruitment
    • Organizational development execution and planning
    • Supervisor/Manager development within their roles and in applied HR skills
    • Benefits:
      • Design of competitive offering
      • Costs/sourcing
      • Administration
      • Fulfillment
      • Wellness program
    • HR–benefits vendor relationship management, selection, and contracting
    • Administration of employee reviews, feedback, performance management, and training programs
    • Compliance with all Federal and State regulatory laws
    • Internal employee communications, meeting planning, and work culture improvement
    • Contribution/development of compensation plans
    • Johnny's safety program, safety team, and OSHA compliance
    • ESOP plan legal ownership model, eligibility, ERISA compliance requirements
    • Support of external/off-site Johnny's employees
    • Company policy development and documentation
  • Individual performance/knowledge:
    • Direct management of human resources staff members
    • Contribute to senior management team and other group cross-functional work
    • Create annual HR department, company wage, benefit, and ESOP budgets
    • ESOP plan legal ownership model, eligibility, ERISA compliance requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR, and/or other HR certification preferred

Qualifications/Skills

  • 5+ years of increasing human resources experience, with experience in leadership
  • Demonstrated success in talent acquisition and the full-circle process of recruitment through on-boarding
  • Demonstrated success in HR compliance
  • Successful experience analyzing and maximizing operational efficiency and productivity
  • Strong experience leading all aspects of a large-scale project or program, from vision to execution, especially with cross-functional team involvement
  • Experience seeking out and negotiating vendor relationships within the HR function
  • Demonstrated time management expertise and ability to balance multiple priorities
  • Experience with the implementation and evaluation of change management and/or process improvement projects
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations required

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work varied hours/days as business dictates
  • Ability to sit at a computer up to 85% of the work day
  • Ability to travel for training and HR support
