Facilities/Maintenance Supervisor

Position Summary

This position is responsible for supervising the company's (JSS) maintenance department, mechanics, and sanitation personnel. With the Management team you will set priorities for facilities improvements. You and your staff will also address regular department service requests. Responsibilities of this position include creating and maintaining preventative maintenance plans, performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting equipment, repairing equipment, and performing routine installation of new equipment and processes, as well as the upkeep of buildings, grounds, and equipment. As Facilities/Maintenance Supervisor, you will be expected to supervise, as well as perform hands-on activities. This is a full-time position.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • With Management, develop a short- and long-range facilities improvement plan
  • Responsible for staffing, training, and daily maintenance work assignments
  • Coordinate renovations of existing facilities and department work-space/work stations
  • Help develop and enact programs that support Johnny's sustainability value
  • Participate in developing Johnny's security and workplace safety policies
  • Work with security companies to ensure building and employee security
  • Oversee the coordination of facilities maintenance and improvement work with JSS landlords on leased properties
  • Lead member of Johnny's Safety team
  • Foster and maintain safety procedures to meet OHSA standards and JSS insurance standards
  • Responsible for training and upgrading skills of craftsmen on new equipment and procedures
  • Develop an annual budget for staff, planned improvements, vendors, and facilities capitol purchases
  • Draft RFQ requirements, obtain quotes, and contact vendors for improvement projects
  • Maintain annual maintenance agreements for HVAC, plowing, and other services
  • Oversee maintenance of Johnny's-owned or -leased equipment and vehicles
  • Make suggested changes in safe working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of work crew
  • Coordinate and inspect contract work on electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and other related work


  • High school or equivalent education; 3 years of supervisory experience; and minimum of 5 years of experience in general contracting, office building facilities, distribution center, or manufacturing plant facilities maintenance, with one or more of the following crafts: general construction, boilermaker, welder, machinist, farm equipment/vehicle mechanic, or HVAC mechanic

  • Completion of a formal apprenticeship or similar accredited training program (such as vocational, trade, commercial, or military) in the mechanical field or journeyman certification; 3 years' supervisory experience; and minimum of 4 years' related industrial maintenance experience in general construction, boilermaker, welder, machinist, farm equipment/vehicle mechanic, or HVAC mechanic

Qualifications & Skills

  • Working knowledge of plant process equipment, including utility systems, building codes, and/or other design requirements (including blueprint reading): OSHA, EPA, MIL-SPEC, and quality control manuals
  • Must possess excellent delegation and organizational skills
  • The ideal candidate is a self-motivated leader with the ability to motivate others and be committed to work force development
  • Proficiency in common software applications
  • Experience in CAD/CAM software to produce layouts of office and production space — preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and corresponding safety precautions necessary for the safe performance of assigned duties

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 60 pounds.
