Tall, upright, blue-green leaves. Thick, cylindrical, white stems; leaves resist breaking. Increase the blanched white portion by hilling plants with soil or transplanting deeply (see Leeks). Not as winter-hardy as Evergreen. Packet: 500 seeds.

CULTURE: Seed can be sown in early spring for summer use, and in July or August for fall and spring use. Sow 1/4- 1/2" apart in rows of 2-3" wide bands, 1/2" deep. Increase the blanched white portion by hilling plants with soil or transplanting deeply (see Leeks).
HARVEST: Loosen with fork or underminer and gather. Wash, hydrocool, and hold at near freezing until shipped or displayed.
