Sami joined the team at Johnny's Selected Seeds as the Territory Sales Representative for Central and Southern California and Hawai'i in 2022.
Originally from Northern California, Sami found her way to agriculture by following her passion for food. Upon completing her Master's degree in Food Culture and Communications, she sought a hands-on learning experience at a small-scale diversified farm. After her first farmhand experience, she knew farming was something worth dedicating her life to. In the years that followed, Sami traveled around the States and Europe, working for various small-scale vegetable operations, fruit farms, and vineyards. Equipped with a background straddling the agriculture and wine industries, having worked in both growing and sales, she now brings these combined experiences and expertise to Johnny's.
As a California grower, Sami is passionate about climate-resilient farming practices that enhance soil health and water security. She enjoys collaborating with many players to support and create thriving regional food systems. She is excited to work with the farmers in her territory to find the appropriate varieties and tools to support their unique farming operations.

Heidi joined Johnny's Selected Seeds as the Territory Sales Representative for Washington, Oregon, Northern California, Idaho, and Alaska in August 2022.
Heidi discovered her love of farming at an early age and has worked on small organic farms in Washington State since 1998. She started growing certified-organic diversified row crop vegetables, organic berries, and cut flowers on her own farm in 2003. As a long-time CSA, direct-market, and wholesale grower, she valued Johnny's for the quality and expertise the company provides long before joining the team. Heidi also spent 9 years working as an education and outreach specialist with the Washington State Department of Agriculture Organic Program, developing resources in English and Spanish for organic growers.
Heidi is passionate about sustainability — for the land and for the farmers! — and about growing, sharing, and eating great food.

Kim began working at Johnny's in 2019 in the Customer Care Department, joined the Commercial Sales Team in 2020 as a Sales Support Specialist, and has quickly advanced to the role of Territory Sales Representative for the Central U.S.
Originally from Oklahoma, Kim spent 20 years in Dallas, Texas before moving to Maine with her husband in 2013, seeking a change of pace, less concrete, and more woods.
Kim gained experience in the agriculture industry by working for two Maine-based certified-organic farms and an apple orchard. That experience allowed her to see firsthand the challenges growers face. She has also studied Sustainable Food and Farming at UMass. Prior to working in agriculture, Kim acquired an extensive background in customer service and sales support, which enables her to provide excellent service to the growers she serves.

Becky Hume is a commercial vegetable grower who had long been a Johnny's customer before joining our Commercial Sales team in 2021.
Becky knew farming was her life's work after completing her first farm apprenticeship at the age of 16. She went on to earn a degree in agriculture from Cornell University and has spent the last 12+ years working in various sectors of the agricultural industry. She worked on several cut-flower and vegetable farms in the U.S. and abroad before moving to Texas in 2014. Since then, she has managed a 200-acre organic vegetable farm, an aquaponic facility, and a regional microgreens operation. She currently owns and operates her own diversified vegetable farm just outside of Austin, Texas.
As a Southwestern grower, Becky has first-hand experience with the unique climatic and regional needs of her customers and is passionate about helping growers find the varieties that perform best in Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico.
When she is not helping farmers find the perfect varieties to thrive on their farms, Becky can usually be found tending the fields on her own farm, cooking lavish meals for friends, or out at the local honky-tonk, two-stepping.

Dana has spent the last 15 years working and studying in the field of sustainable agriculture. After completing his undergraduate degree in plant and soil science, he spent years working on vegetable farms of all scales, starting as an intern on a 2-acre farm in the Vermont mountains and later serving as crop manager at a 160-acre farm in Minnesota. He then earned his Master's degree in horticulture from Iowa State University, where he conducted research on reduced tillage systems for organic vegetable production.
After finishing graduate school in 2015, Dana started his own farm business — Sogn Valley Farm, a certified organic vegetable farm and plant nursery near Northfield, Minnesota. He and his wife have owned and operated the farm for the past 7 years and still live there with their 2 young children. After years producing diversified vegetables for farmers' markets and a CSA program, the farm now specializes in wholesale peppers.
A loyal Johnny's customer for over a decade, Dana is grateful for the opportunity to join the Commercial Sales team and help growers in his region find the seeds, tools, and supplies they need for their farms to thrive.

Originally from Michigan, Dana has over a decade of experience on diversified fruit and vegetable farms. She earned an undergraduate degree in journalism and math from the University of Rochester before getting the agricultural bug. She started apprenticing on organic vegetable farms around the country and eventually managed a 10-acre vegetable farm in Columbus, Ohio. Dana went on to earn a Master's degree from Ohio State in Horticulture and Crop Science in 2019, studying high tunnel winter lettuce growing methods. Prior to joining Johnny's Commercial Sales team, she worked with Extension programs at Ohio State and Central State University, where she ran training programs for beginning farmers in Ohio and provided technical support for market gardeners.
In 2019, Dana began her own 3-acre no-till farm outside of Columbus, where she grows vegetables year-round and raspberries during the summer. She's been a Johnny's customer since the beginning of her farming career and jumped at the opportunity to join a company with such high quality and customer care standards.
When she's not helping farmers or farming herself, you'll find her on a sand volleyball court or trying out a new recipe in the kitchen.

Amy brings to the team a wealth of experience and working familiarity with Johnny's varieties from having fulfilled a series of roles within our Contact Center and the Albion Research & Trialing Farm. While at Johnny's Research Farm, she acquired hands-on experience spanning our entire seed-production process — from starting crops in the greenhouse, transplanting, and cultivating to harvesting, sluicing, and cleaning seeds. This past experience has given her insight into and appreciation for crops not only for the edible harvest they provide, but also for their seed potential.
Amy possesses deep working knowledge accrued by running her own homestead farm, as well. With the goal of meeting her family's needs to every extent possible, she engages in year-round production of vegetables, fruit, and free-range livestock. She looks forward to connecting with commercial growers throughout her territory.

Emma grew up farming in Western Massachusetts and graduated from UMass Amherst with a degree in Plant, Soil, and Insect Sciences, with a concentration in sustainable horticulture. She most recently managed her family's diversified produce farm.
As a farmer and member of the agricultural community, Emma understands the small details involved in selecting the right varieties, and how individualized that process and its outcome can be to different growers. She enjoys trialing new selections and assessing their use in varied settings.
Emma adds, "Through my work on my own family's farm I have learned the most from running our own trials, selecting the best varieties for our particular needs, and discovering what will taste best and serve our customers best. I've enjoyed this not only because it is fun and the variation in cultivars is endlessly fascinating, but also because the pursuit of excellence reflects a commitment to doing our best by the community we feed, employ, and thereby strengthen. My goal is now to apply that mindset to my territory; whereas my farm and my valley were my prior focus, all the farmers and growers of Southern New England are now my people. I feel a strong sense of responsibility for the advice I give and the success of individuals and food systems here. I can't quite believe my luck in joining Johnny's to share in the common pursuit of service and excellence."

John works for Johnny's as a general consultant, assisting Sami Weiss in the Central and Southern California territory and in Nevada County, California; working with several Californian farmers on seed sales; and assisting Product Development in assessing varieties for California and the greater West Coast region.
John has farmed on both coasts, starting in Southern New Hampshire with a small organic market farm in 1973. John moved the farm to the Connecticut Valley of Massachusetts in 1977 and built it to 250 acres of conventional and organic production by 1993. In 1994, John took a year off to condense his acreage to certified-organic production only. He joined Johnny's in Albion, Maine as Research & Seed Production director for that year. He worked with Rob Johnston that year on the development of 'Bright Lights' Swiss chard and improved winter squash and pumpkin varieties.
John returned to his farm in 1995 and farmed organically through the 1998 season. In 1999, he decided to sell the farm to Full Bloom Market Gardens/Happy Valley Organics in Whately, Massachusetts and move to California. He took the position of General Manager for Lakeside Organic Gardens, Watsonville, California. Later, he joined in a partnership with Stone Free Farms, Aromas, California, growing salad mix and specialty vegetable crops. In October 2001, John joined a Salinas seed company and became immersed in the seed business, specializing in organic seed and NOP-compliant coating trials. He was involved in trialing the first coated seeds that were NOP-compliant and worked with seed technology companies in the Salinas area on NOP-compliant priming of lettuce seed. He also worked with seed technology companies developing NOP-compliant seed treatments for improved soil disease resistance, better vigor, and nutrient usage.
In 2009, John brought his extensive experience to our Commercial Sales Team.
