John Bauer
"In 1973, I was one of Johnny's first customers, meeting with Rob Johnston in his basement seed store in Acton, Massachusetts. Rob discussed my primeval organic crop plan with me and made some great variety and cultural recommendations. From those beginnings, I farmed for over 30 years and Johnny's has thrived for 40 years."
John joined Johnny's Sales team in 2009, bringing his extensive history in agriculture to the position. John's past endeavors include opening an organic market garden in New Hampshire 40 years ago; farming over 200 acres of conventionally and organically grown crops in Massachusetts; serving as a former Director of Research and Production; and as GM for a large, organic vegetable and herb farm in California.

John's passion has always been discovering and trialing innovative new varieties, production methods, and equipment designs. In California he has broadened our knowledge base in the value of beneficial flowering insectary crops and hedgerows, exploring creative ways to manage insects and control disease within organic systems. He has also lent insight into leading-edge varieties bred and developed for the California vegetable and herb farming industry. John recognizes the tremendous challenges and opportunities facing California growers, and works energetically to service growers and businesses within this dynamic region.

"Every farm operation is unique and distinct. My goal as a Johnny's Rep is to understand each farmer's perspective and goals, and match them with the top-notch selection of seeds and tools at our disposal, in order to help form plans for success. I look forward to working with farms of all sizes."
Brian joined the Sales team at Johnny's Selected Seeds in June 2015. He has been farming and gardening organically for over 30 years, but has a healthy respect for anyone who takes on the challenge of growing food no matter what their methods are.

Johnny's was the first seed company Brian bought seed from, and has continued to be the primary supplier for farms under his management in both New England and California. Besides experience with field and greenhouse production, Brian has years with farmers' market sales, direct sales to retails and restaurants, and wholesale accounts, and is happy to assist with developing growing and marketing plans for these outlets. He has grown a wide diversity of vegetable crops, medicinal herbs and, more recently, flowers. As a farm sales manager and marketer to Bay Area restaurants, following and incubating culinary trends has been his latest interest.

Brian microfarms on the Rinky Dink Ranch in Rumsey, California.

"With ten years' experience growing diverse vegetables, herbs and flowers for CSAs, farmers' markets and restaurants, I value the hard work, persistence and commitment required to sustain a small farm operation. It is my intention to help growers succeed in any way I can."
Originally from Connecticut, Luke's career in agriculture began on the West Coast, where he apprenticed on a California vegetable farm and quickly worked his way up to managing small market operations in Oregon. After returning to New England, he set up an organic growing operation on the banks of the Mom River in Southern, Maine, supplying vegetables, herbs, and flowers to regional farmers' markets, CSAs, and restaurants. Luke has come to value the hard work, persistence, and commitment required to sustain a small farm operation. Recognizing that New England's strong local food system is reliant upon the success of small commercial growers throughout the region, Luke's new role as Johnny's Northeast Territory Sales Rep is to support and advance that success in every way possible.

"Working in my garden and growing my own food is one of my greatest pleasures in life. I am proud to be involved in the business of agriculture, and look forward to learning from and with the growers in my territory and assisting with their needs in any way that I can."
Amy brings a wealth of experience and working familiarity with Johnny's varieties from prior positions within our Contact Center and the Albion Research & Trialing Farm. While at Johnny's Research Farm, she acquired hands-on experience spanning our entire seed-production process — from starting crops in the greenhouse, transplanting, and cultivating, to harvesting, sluicing, and cleaning seeds. This past experience has given her insight into, and appreciation of crops not just for the edible harvest they provide, but for the seed potential they generate.

Amy additionally possesses deep working knowledge accrued from running her own homestead farm, with the goal of meeting her family's needs to every extent possible, in year-round production of a range of vegetables, fruit, and free-range livestock. Amy looks forward to connecting with commercial growers throughout her territory.

"I have been actively engaged in agriculture since the early seventies, growing vegetables with my grandfather. Once older, I started working as a field hand on a large fruit and vegetable farm in northern New Jersey. This experience led to a degree in Agronomy from SUNY Morrisville in 1981. Since then I have worked in research at the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station, as an agricultural service provider, and operated two small organic farms, initially in North Branford, Connecticut and later in Waldo, Maine. At Moosehead Trail Farm I produce greenhouse tomatoes, hydroponic lettuce and basil, strawberries, and sweet corn, along with a mix of other vegetables and flowers to supply my farm stand and farmer's market. On the farm I utilize sustainable practices, including IPM, cover cropping, season extension, and hydroponics. Additionally, I have served as chairman on the Waldo County Soil and Water Conservation District Board, from 1998–2014."
Paul's career at Johnny's Selected Seeds began in January 2011 as Technical Services Technician for the Product Development team. In this capacity he responded to customers' technical growing questions, maintained and updated the technical information available to our customers, and educated Johnny's staff regarding technical and product concerns. Soon after starting Paul was also tasked with the roles of Product Trial Technician in the Tools & Supplies area as well as for Cover Crops. More recently he has filled the role of Technical Advisor, assisting customers and staff with technical growing information. Now Sales Representative for the greater Central and Eastern seaboard states, growers in this important region are in good hands with Paul.

"It is an exciting time to be a professional vegetable grower. There is an expanding community of new and seasoned growers to learn from — and with whom to celebrate the renewed interest in locally grown fresh produce."
Ken has worked with commercial growers at Johnny's Selected Seeds since 1999. He has observed the evolution of small organic farms struggling on the fringe to the era of locally grown, organic produce being appreciated in the mainstream. He likes to stay current with successful market farming techniques, trends in consumer interest, and the best varieties of vegetables, herbs, and flowers available.

Ken's background in farming dates back to 1981, with an apprenticeship at the UC Santa Cruz Farm Project. In 1985 he founded a mixed vegetable market farm in Liberty, Maine, growing specialty lettuces, greens, and a full line of quality produce of all types. The harvest was sold directly to stores and restaurants in regional Mid Coast Maine and shipped to restaurants as far afield as Portland and Boston.
