Protecting the intellectual property, propagation, and exclusive marketing rights of plant varieties through the Plant Variety Protection Act (PVP), gives breeders an incentive to develop new and improved varieties. PVP is an important support for classical (non-GMO) breeders whose work is critical in developing varieties that are better suited for our changing environment and pest/disease landscape, and which can help us better meet the challenge of securing a global food supply.
