'Moonshadow' Purple Ethiopian Kale for Baby-Leaf Greens

Hello! I'm Rachel, today we're out here in the baby leaf trial. We're looking at this new variety, 'Moonshadow'. It's really beautiful. It has this deep green color with purple veins and a purple blush on the top. And then purple – true purple! – on the underside of the leaves. None of that red or dark. This is all this beautiful bright purple with these magenta veins.

Another really exciting thing about it is that it has this succulent, soft meaty texture. It's related to 'Amara'. They're both Ethiopian kale or Texsel greens. It's actually a mustard green, but it has a very mild garlic flavor that makes it really, really interesting. We've been looking at this for a few years.

It is much slower bolting than 'Amara'. This has been holding at this size for about a week now through some pretty intense heat. It's a really beautiful green like nothing we've ever seen before and we're really excited to add it to the assortment. It has these dark purple petioles and it really makes a lovely cut green.
