Blocky round pumpkins with slightly russeted, deep orange color and tough green handles. Reduced-length vine. Compared to Racer, Charisma is a pound or two larger (avg. 14-18 lb.), matures later, is lighter orange, has a more slender handle, and is a lot less susceptible to powdery mildew. Combines parentage from Cornell University and Johnny's. Avg. 3,300 seeds/lb. Packet: 30 seeds.

CULTURE: Refer to "Winter Squash." TIMING: Seed pumpkins to mature in Sept. for shipping and in early Oct. for retail. Too many days of sun on fruits in the field after maturity will bleach handles and sunscald the fruits. HARVEST: Before frost or after 1 or 2 light frosts. Clip stems close to the vine. Use care to avoid gouging or bruising. Store under cover in boxes or bins. AVG. DIRECT SEEDING RATE: 130'/oz., 8 oz./1,000', 3 1/2 lbs./acre at 2 seeds/18" in rows 6' apart, (9,800 seeds/acre at 2,800 seeds/lb.).
