DAYS TO GERMINATION:

5-14 days at 65-75°F (18-24°C). Varying warm day temperatures and cool night temperatures will yield best germination. If germination is a challenge, soaking the seeds for up to 12 hours and/or nicking the seeds might improve or hasten germination. Prior to soaking, nick the pointed end of the seed with a knife or clippers.

SOWING:

Transplant - Sow 3-4 weeks before planting out. Cover seed with 1/4" growing media. Light is not required for germination. Keep the soil surface moist. Harden off and transplant outside after danger of frost. Direct seed - 1-2 weeks after last frost.

LIGHT PREFERENCE:

Sun is ideal; tolerates part shade.

PLANT HEIGHT:

120-180". Growing support such as staking or trellising is recommended.

PLANT SPACING:

8-14" between plants. 6" away from wall, trellis, or arbor.

HARDINESS ZONES:

Annual.

SOIL REQUIREMENTS:

Average, well-drained soil; tolerant of poor soils. High nitrogen levels and overwatering can result in reduced flower production.

USES:

Garden beds, containers, landscape, arbors, trellis.
