Onion Plants & Sets
We offer both onion plants (also called onion starts) and onion sets. Onion plants are field-grown, spring dug plants. Onion sets are small, dry immature onion bulbs grown the season before. Our onion plants are easy to grow—just separate and transplant out. Plants arrive as dormant starts—expect them to be dry and/or pale in color due to dormancy and shipping. They are very hardy and will thrive if cared for properly. Offered in bunches of approximately 50–60 plants, one variety per bunch. Plants are shipped weekly from mid-January through the end of April. You may choose your desired ship week, or we will send the plants at the appropriate planting time for your location. All Johnny's onion plants and sets are tested and certified free from the presence of white rot and parasitic nematodes.
