Video: What's the Difference Between Gai Lan & Gai Lan x Broccoli?

Join Johnny's Broccoli Product Manager, Steve Bellavia for a quick tutorial on the key crop differentiators between a 100% gai lan variety and one that has been crossed with a standard broccoli variety to produce a gai lan x broccoli cultivar.

Gai lan in Cantonese or jiè lán in Mandarin means "mustard orchid" 芥蘭.

Using as examples two of our favorite varieties, 'Happy Rich' and 'Melody', Steve explains the basic differences between how these two types of mini broccolis grow and produce sprouts, their form, flavor and eating qualities, and why you may want to opt to grow one over another (or plant both).
