'Double Frappe Light Pink 2' Snapdragon Variety from Johnny's
I'm here in our spring tunnel snapdragon trial and we are really excited to introduce a new double-flowering light pink snapdragon. This variety is 'Double Frappe Light Pink 2' and it's an early-flowering variety. It's a Group 2 variety, so best-suited to cool-season production when temperatures are lower and days are shorter.
Some things that stood out to us about this variety are:
- the uniformity of flowering time across the plot;
- the earliness of the variety (it flowers earlier than 'Madame Butterfly' for comparison);
- the excellent bloom quality with fully double florets;
- and finally the color was something that really stood out with this really delicate soft pink color which up until now has not existed in a double-flowering snapdragon series.
I have here an example of another double-flowering pink snapdragon for comparison and you can hopefully see how soft and delicate the coloring is of the 'Double Frappe Light Pink 2' in my right hand. There are softer shades here of ivory, blush, and soft pink. Whereas in my left hand I have the classic pink double-flowering snapdragon with more of a saturated color. Again, this is just an example of the unique coloring on the 'Double Frappe Light Pink 2'.
Also, until recently, the only double-flowering snapdragons that have been tall enough for cutting have been the Madame Butterfly series and what we have found with the 'Double Frappe Light Pink 2' is that this variety is earlier than the Madame Butterfly and also more uniform in all ways: more uniform flowering time, more uniform stem and bloom quality, and unique color. Again this is an earlier double-flowering option. It should be noted, too, that the Madame Butterfly series does perform more like a group 3 or 4 snapdragon and is still a good option for the summer growing season in high light and warmer temperature conditions. The 'Double Frappe Light Pink 2' is a really great option for a uniform, high performing double snapdragon for cooler season growing.
