'Parrot King' Tulip

A closer look at 'Parrot King' tulip from Johnny's

This variety right here is 'Parrot King'. This is a really nice kind of counterpart to 'Apricot Parrot'. They have a similar bloom form kind of an elongated bud that opens into a little bit of a wild looking flower with nice feathery edges on the pedals and the coloring of 'Parrot King' is really nice. It's warm and kind of glowing on the outside of the petals as the buds are developing. There's a kind of a creamy yellow along with the green and then a little bit of orange as the buds mature. Then when they open, they have a bright, glowing orange with gold at the center. Just a really striking variety overall.

It's a little bit shorter than 'Apricot Parrot' and a little bit slightly later to flower, but overall very comparable in terms of stem length. Like 'Apricot Parrot', 'Parrot King' is a little bit of a taller variety, which is really nice for the stem length. As the blooms develop and get a little bit heavier, the stems can lean a little bit. If you are harvesting for market bouquets or bunching, it's probably better to harvest before the blooms are fully developed or open more at the bud stage, when the stems are just a little bit shorter.
